What Sets Us Apart

AIvory Books publishes European literature: stories set in European regions, unfolding along European history, with European knowledge at their core — from the Geneva Reformation to everyday life beneath Bern's arcades, from Lake Como to the Valais Alps. No interchangeable global-city backdrop, no worldwide storytelling template lifted from a telenovela. And no black-and-white action with clear-cut heroes and villains: our characters do wrong out of duty, loyalty, or exhaustion, and the resolution is rarely a clean victory.

We don't follow the logic of the attention economy. No forced cliffhanger at the end of a chapter, no endless book series like television soap operas, no stimulus for the sake of stimulus — some of our books don't even have a crime as their driving force, but instead live off an object, a memory, a single place. What matters more to us is that a book surprises, conveys real knowledge — how a watch is built, how direct democracy can tip out of balance, what alpine summer grazing rights mean — and stays with you long after the last page is read.

Within this European framework, we don't commit to a single genre: regional crime fiction, Nordic noir, historical fiction, fantasy, thriller — seventeen author personas, each with their own voice, publishing in up to six languages. Every story begins with research: real places, real professions, verifiable facts backed by sources. This grounding in reality is the raw material from which atmosphere is made — and the reason our books maintain a consistently high quality despite their thematic diversity, and, we hope, keep you thoroughly entertained.
